Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem has been targeted by many times in attempts to destroy it in order to build the Third Temple on the same site.

This week marks the 46th anniversary of the first attempt to burn the mosque, on August 21, 1968.

The perpetrator, Michael Dennis Rohan, is an Australian believer in the millennia advent of the Saviour and the need to clean the place for His place of rule.

The immediate reaction by Arab heads of states was to form the Organisation of Islamic Conference, which had on its agenda the mobilisation of all Muslims to participate in the eventual liberation of the Holy City.

Through press campaigns, millions of Indonesians and Malaysians volunteered to fight for Al Aqsa Mosque, or to offer huge donations to its people.

Millions of Iranians staged demonstrations in all big cities and in front of major Western embassies, expressing anger and calling for revenge.

That crime of arson planted more seeds for Islamic violence of the kind manifested years later in New York, London, Paris and Kenya.

The Israeli government is committing the same serious mistake now by allowing organised groups of ultra-Orthodox rabbis to storm the Aqsa Mosque, under the protection of Israeli soldiers who routinely arrest all Jerusalemites attempting to stop the intruders.

So far, hundreds of Palestinians have been arrested and banned by court orders from getting into the vicinity of the mosque.

This deteriorating situation will eventually lead to a confrontation that might spark a third Intifada and put an end to all hopes of a peaceful solution to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.

With the accelerating hegemony of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards over many Palestinian militias and Islamic Jihad members, more Jewish millennia believers will push the entire region to chaos.

Israeli officials refused to abide by tens of United Nations Security Council Resolutions warning against wanton attacks against Islamic holy sites.

The most explicit are UN Security Council resolutions 478 and 252, which strongly condemn Israeli aggression at Al Aqsa Mosque.

Jordan had contributed to defusing this explosive issue by active diplomacy, using its prerogative of the only Arab country legally entitled by a peace treaty to defend the Islamic shrines.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has to reciprocate by banning the millennia true believers from igniting a powder keg the ramifications of which will engulf Israelis and Palestinians.
